Avoiding the Vampires who want you to fail - NaNoWriMo style

It's almost upon us...the days when I crawl up in my hole of a room each and every night, ignore my friends and family, pretend the laundry isn't piling up, and stock up on enough pizza to feed an army.  If you're a writer, you know what I'm talking about....the NaNoWriMo days!

Only two days from now, I'll be diving into a whole new story for one full month. It's full of darkness and grief and crazy escape situations (think Resident Evil meets I Am Legend). With those elements and the cold weather and early evenings approaching, I'm sure to get lost in the rewrite of my story that is code name: EOD.

To date, I have a full 4000 word outline ready to follow, half of a playlist compiled that will keep me the mindset of the story, and a poster size map of the city the story takes place in. And I'm trying my best to not listen to all those people out there who are asking me, "Are you sure you want to try it again?"...."Why? Didn't you quit last time?" ... "That's just insane. Why don't you take your time?", and my favorite... "It'll be crap if you write it that fast. I wouldn't bother."

Oh, vampires....just shut the hell up. Don't throw your unsuccessfulness with Nano in my face and tell me that I'll do the same thing. I'm different than you, and yes, I did fail last year, but this is a different year, and I have a different goal in mind. This year, I may fail again...or if I stay focused, maybe I can succeed for the first time....but I can't do a damn thing if I don't at least try to do something. I want to see EOD on paper. I want to give Skylar's story the completeness it should have had in the beginning. I don't care what you, vampires, think I can do...I only care what I think I can do.

So...if you have the same Can-Do attitude towards NaNoWriMo month that I do, please be my writing buddy! Hop on over to my NaNoWriMo page and add me to your buddy list!  I'd love the positive company :)

Great post! I signed up for the first time this year and I'm a complete novice. I think I have bitten off more than I can chew, but I'm going to give it a red hot go! What have I got to lose?
