Of the twenty blog posts I have planned, this is not one of them. My fast and furious start of projects fizzled in mid-March. Why, you ask? Because of this...
That's right...it's soccer time again! And frankly, while we're at the fields three days a week, it doesn't technically take up a huge amount of time. What it does take up is my discretionary mental space... For instance, on a typical weekday, our only focus is school and day job until the moment we get home at 5:45ish. Then its dinner, homework, bath, play, and if lucky, a bit of TV...all before kids bedtime at 8:30. On soccer nights, shove in 2 hours at the soccer fields and still all of the above. And on top of it, my kids have found a love of Wednesday night church activities, so that's another 1.5 hours from another night shoved in place. AND my oldest takes art lessons on Fridays and now the youngest wants to do gymnastics...not to mention baseball that starts in May! AH!!
So...what is the point of my ranting? I'm not sure, except that I can quickly see how I'm about to lose control of my brain. So in prep, I'm trying to forge some things in place to get this nutcase of a schedule to flow better. Maybe you guys might have some more tips? Here's some things I've been trying so far:
- Made homemade pancakes; froze them for quick breakfasts during the week
- Made mini blueberry muffins and put them in little baggies (like the Hostess mini muffins. MUCH cheaper)
- Crock pot freezer meal bag prepping
- Notebook/pen/book etc always in my purse in case I'm able to write. Nine chances out of ten a parent wants to chat, so it rarely works. :(
- Bought dragon dictation program for my computer. Now I can multitask and "write" at the same time. SCORE!
- No matter what...take 15 minutes for myself everyday before I cook dinner. It's amazing how much better I feel.
What kind of things make your day go smoother?
